I’M DOING THE WORLD RACE.
This whole thing started with meeting a friend for coffee. A friend was going to be in town before moving, and he asked me to get coffee and catch up. He’d since been on the race, spending 11 months in South America. This made the fourth friend I’ve had to go on this wild adventure. I’ve always been intrigued by the World Race. What an incredible experience it must be. And then a crazy series of events came into play. That series of events included a teammate of the friend I met for coffee, which led to some walls being broken down, which led to a lot of prayer, watching a route reveal webcast, submitting my application the night of, interviewing soon after, getting accepted, and putting in a deposit in three days thanks to some very generous friends. And that all happened in 7 weeks.
WUT. IS. LIFE.
Life right now is abandoning what is normal. At 28, I’ve learned that life is short, and that there is a reason and season for everything. I’ve had dreams of traveling, of serving people in other places, because it’s what my heart is wired for. My heart is wired for extravagantly loving and serving others. It’s what I was created to do. The race came up at a time when I was wondering what the next three years would look like. I lead a group of high school girls in a ministry called Young Life, and didn’t want to leave them. But all I kept hearing was, “GO.” From friends I talked to the race about, from sermons, from scripture, even from songs I had listened to. Once the application was in, I thought, “Maybe God is just testing me to see if I’m willing to go, maybe I won’t get accepted.”
…then on November 17, 2017, my life was forever changed. I got the call. I was accepted. I told my supervisor and boss the next day, my parents a few days later.
More details to come, but know that there is no way I can do this journey on my own. Life is wild, and I know that Jesus is going to stretch me so much in the months leading up to the race, and so much more once we’re on the field. To everyone who has encouraged me, prayed for me, and took time to talk with me the past two months: Thank you.
This journey all started with meeting for coffee. Which is wild, because its something I do nearly every week, usually multiple times. I get coffee with people, we talk and open up and share our lives with each other. I hope you get the chance to do that this week with someone who knows you truly and deeply. I hope you get the chance to share your life with someone, and that you’ll know you’re called to pursue your dreams, that God planted those in your heart for a reason. God will give you those things, but sometimes it requires you to jump. This has been my jump. But now I ask you: will you take yours? What is your jump? Would you be so bold to ask God what that is, what it looks like for you? And then would you be so bold as to take it?
I am so proud to see you listening to Christ and his calling on your life to go! I love walking through life with you and can’t wait to see where this adventure takes you!
Katie, you have been a light in my life for years. Without Jesus putting you and so many other characters, I don’t know that this chapter of my story would be being written right now. You’ve been a huge support and encouragement. I love you and I’m so excited to have you on my support team.
I’m so proud of you, Vickie! Can’t wait to see all God does in you and through you during this journey!
Thanks a million, Kee!!! So thankful that you’ve been a character in my story for so many years. Thankful for the ways you’ve encouraged and prayed for me, with me since day one. I would not be where I am without you and Marty!
