You’re probably already thinking: that’s not the right order from scripture. And you’re right. So let me explain.
I’d held 1 Corinthians 13 close to my heart all through high school. But mostly the past verse, verse thirteen: So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Nothing in life makes sense without love. It holds all things together. Because God is himself love (1 John 4:8; 1 John 4:16), and He holds the whole world together.
I wanted to get the three words, Faith, Hope, & Love inked, but the order really bothered me for some reason. Not that they were out of order, but I wanted love at the center, because Love has to be the reason we do everything, God-centered, Love-centered.
So I have a reminder on my wrist: Hope, Faith, and love remain. Love is the most important, and that’s why it’s in the middle. It holds it all together. Holds me all together. And God is Himself love; He holds everything together. He has to be at the center, at the center of it all is Love.
