Anxiety.

It’s such a funny thing. I often used to think of the word anxiety as something that is overused and exaggerated. For such a long time I would have NEVER described myself as an anxious person, honestly up until this past year.

My name is Faith and I struggle with anxiety.

Finances, friendships, jobs, how I should spend my time, cleanliness, what others think about me, my appearance-both my body and my clothes. You name it and I struggle with it.

Anxiety is the secret behind this lovely tattoo of mine.

Flowers-but not just any flowers, wild flowers.

“Therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body… consider the lilies (some versions say wild flowers) of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin… But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore, do not be anxious.” – Matthew 6:25-31

My dear friend and I got this tattoo together (she also struggles with anxiety) two Decembers ago, spontaneously one night. I will forever hold that night dear to my heart, as well as the permanent reminder that is on my arm.

I am a forgetful person, we as humans are forgetful people. So much so that it even goes back to the Bible. God reminds his people again and again of who he is and all that he is capable of. In a way, that’s what this tattoo does for me. It reminds me that I have no reason to be anxious.

God is good and always in control.

Therefore, do not be anxious.
