This month in eSwatini, I was placed on the Agriculture team. I was laughing, because I know next to nothing about farming. I was smiling because God taught me so much about evangelizing and loving people through the scriptures that talk about farming, planting, and seeds, and I knew more lessons were coming.

Our first day at the field, we pulled weeds for three hours. There’s five of us on this ministry team, Jake, Shiloh, Abby, Brynna, and myself. What I found, however, was that IT WAS FUN. It was hard work, yes, but just because something is hard doesn’t mean it can’t also be fun.

We talked a lot that day. We talked about our fears, we talked about the future. We talked about why we fear the things we fear. We also talked about fear not being an option because we have Christ and the Bible says a million times, “Have no fear.”

Working side by side with this team is already a huge gift, and I can’t wait to see where God takes us as a team by the end of the month.

Something else I’ve learned:

You have to pull the weeds—all of them—and get the root out. If you don’t get the whole root, it’ll just keep coming up, and suck the nutrients out of fertile soil, away from the plants you’re actually trying to grow. If you have a lie in your life you’re believing, you have to pull it and remove it from your life all the way. Otherwise, it’ll keep coming up and taking control of the thoughts you want and need to grow. When you’re believing lies, you’re actually preventing not only yourself from growing, but others around you as well. Because when you’re operating out of a lie, you aren’t living out your calling, and you’re unable to lift the others around you to their callings as well. BE BOLD. Uproot those lies and replace them with truths. You don’t have time to believe what isn’t true.

There’s another big picture I’ve been getting, but I’ll save it for another blog to process it more. Much love to you all!!!

  1. SAME. It’s been a really cool lesson to both read in scripture and be physically doing it in the field.

  2. Great Stuff, Vickie. Thanks for sharing. You may be interested to check out Dr. Caroline Leaf. https://drleaf.com. She merges science and scripture in an attempt to “weed” negative (not-of-God) thinking from our brain. “Brain surgery.” God bless you!
